Mount Lilydale Mercy College offers a robust Instrumental Music program for students at all years and skill levels.

We offer tuition in the following instruments:

• guitar and bass Guitar
• brass (trumpet, trombone, french horn, euphonium)
• woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone)
• drums
• violin and cello
• piano/keyboard
• voice.

Why learn an instrument?

Learning an instrument is incredibly exciting. Being able to simply pick up an instrument and play a tune is an impressive life-long skill, and one that so many of our students cherish and take great pride in. For many of our students, music is a way for them to escape the stresses of everyday life. It’s a fantastic way to relieve anxiety and practice a sort of mindfulness. Playing an instrument can also foster creativity and perseverance, and there is a lot of research that attests to the fact that it increases grey matter in the brain, increasing problem solving skills and higher order thinking skills. It’s also a great way to build social connections, and appreciation for the Arts. Further benefits of learning an instrument can be found in the information booklet at the bottom of this page.

Logistics

Lessons can be taken in groups, or one-on-one. Lessons are half an hour, and are scheduled during the school day with our professionally trained music instructors.

There are a range of ensemble groups that students are able to join free of charge — these are scheduled during lunch times and after school. These ensembles are a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their skills, and socialise with like-minded students.
